illustration friday: chicken

January 19, 2011 § 2 Comments

I think this image partly comes from the women who are birds who are women in The Erl-King (“she will open all the cages and let the birds free; they will change back into young girls, each with the crimson imprint of his love-bite on their throats” – Angela Carter.), and partly from my desire to doodle repetitive feathery scaly patterns.

My other chicken image, which only exists inside my head, is a single white (chicken’s?) feather – which is what used to be given to conscientious objectors during the First World War to imply that they were cowards. Which, of course, is utter balderdash.
