illustration friday: lesson

May 3, 2011 § 1 Comment

After a long long day I was thinking thoughts about unfettered outdoorsy freedom. Accordingly, here is ‘The Thing’ from Mervyn Peake’s Gormenghast.

What’s the ‘lesson’ bit? That there is more than one way of being. That social stigma and divisions are not the loveliest idea in the world. That the unobtainable is always compelling. That it probably isn’t a good plan to lust after one’s own siblings. Take your pick…

I used the drawing in this post as a reference, and also looked at Mervyn Peake’s own drawing here.

Oh thanks for visiting my blog – it has led me to yours. Love your line style.

And I appreciate your advice about sketching in public – I will keep it in mind the next time I go out 😉
