In between lectures and lesson plans and analysing artwork, I’ve also been learning new skills and playing with materials. Here are some pictures I made with milk, food colouring, washing-up liquid, a camera, and excellent teaching from Pippa Sanger. Basic instructions are here if you fancy having a go yourself; it’s a great way to create stand-alone abstract images, or to add to a library of textures and colours if you’re a digital collage-maker. I love how much they look like pictures of slides under a microscope (for instance, have a look at these. Beautiful!)
And a quick Photoshop experiment…
(the words are a verse from Carol Ann Duffy’s poem the Duke of Fire and the Duchess of Ice.)

Things I love a lot today: strawberry tea, sun streaming in through my open windows, and drawings by Stanley Donwood
Things I do not love even slightly today: an Individual who shall remain nameless unplugging the Mac at the mains before I had saved my work.
Things you should also look at today: inspiring creative spaces, which are here.

And for ears…
(quixotic and ridiculous and glorious. Though am I the only one who giggles at the lines “so pick up your battering ram/Love, I wanna see it”?)
Have a creative happy weekend.

This week’s creative space has been full of the animated music video I’m making in collaboration with lovely Joe Keelan (who spent last night alone in an empty church in the dark recording the music, and Wednesday afternoon on his hands and knees under the tripod, moving my paper cutouts with tweezers while I manned the camera).
You can read and see a bit more about it in this post here. Here are some pictures from today (where I sat glued to the computer adding rainfall to photographs one frame at a time. Phew!):-
To keep me sane I am chain-drinking Pukka tea, eating chocolate digestives, and listening to High Viloet by the National. All of these things are quite gorgeous.
Also, earlier in the week I finished off this knitting. Here it is:-
Finally, you can poke about in other creative spaces here. If there aren’t some utterly inspiring ones, I’ll eat my hat.
