Sketchbook: pencil portrait

In an attempt to keep my brain in gear and excited about making, I have made myself a sketchbook filled with quick prompts for drawings/doodles/illustrations/techniques/visual tomfoolery. Bits of it might appear here from time to time, but being both notoriously bad at keeping up with this whole blogging lark, and tremendously busy, who know.

Anyway, here is my face. And a scarf. And a ridiculous hat. Because it is freezing in our little house.

Just a couple of speedy things to remind myself this blog exists! The first is for a wedding, and the second for a project I am currently running looking at character and narrative.

congrats square

My sister and I are doing this:-525690_10152502179890257_889840307_n

She is photographing. I am drawing. I am cheating using a recycled image, on day one. Hohum.

What students refer to as ‘proper drawing’. I’d forgotten how difficult – and how soothing – it is to do. I really like the ear, and the scarf. The rest has room for improvement.

Playing about with photographs of our marvellous mural. The textures come from some of these abstract photographs. The words are from one of Rumi’s poems.

drawing on the walls

I’ve just spent a lovely weekend making a sort of mural with Alex of Spitting Feathers (go and have a look at her non-drawing-on-the-walls work; she is full of marvellous ideas). We worked for 13 hours straight, fortified by endless tea and Radiohead’s entire back-catalogue of glorious noises (this song was especially influential).

And yes, painting on the walls definitely feels a bit like this (from xkcd):-

Hope your weekends were similarly enjoyable. x
